#RHOBH Yolanda Foster Does Birkin Well

Yolanda Foster recently left her treatment for Lyme Disease in Florida to meet up with her beautiful model daughter, Gigi Hadid, in New York City.  The mother/daughter team are scouting and touring college options for her daughter in the city as she will be able to pursue her college career whilst also working in the New York model scene.

Of course, we love the pic of Yolanda and Gigi, but we wanted to share this picture with you in our continuing effort to share the Birkin bag and the love affair we women have with the Birkin, especially those of us who refuse to carry “logoed” bags.  It’s range of colours and it’s large size make it the perfect handbag for daytime use and, when coupled with the Baginizer, (available from our friend @janefinds at baginizer.com), it’s the perfect choice for every woman.

Jane Birkin’s Birkin

Those of you who are regulars to this blog know that the Hermes Birkin bag is a favourite of the Real Housewives and most well-heeled women in the know and, in case you’ve missed our other posts about this iconic Birkin bag, the first one is here, and it has been followed by many other Birkin posts…

The Birkin Bag, A Real Housewives Favourite

…our other posts include Taylor Armstrong’s fake Birkins, where to get a fake Birkin and numerous posts about who does Birkin well.

Here’s a little more history on the Birkin…

In 1981, Hermès chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas was seated next to Jane Birkin on a flight from Paris to London. She had just placed her straw bag in the overhead compartment of her seat, but the contents fell to the deck, leaving her to scramble to replace the contents. Birkin explained to Dumas that it had been difficult to find a leather weekend bag she liked. In 1984, he created a black supple leather bag for her,[2][3] based on an 1892 design. She used the bag for herself then later changed her mind because she was carrying too many things in it: “What’s the use of having a second one?” she laughs. “You only need one and that busts your arm; they’re bloody heavy. I’m going to have to have an operation for tendonitis in the shoulder.” [4] Nevertheless, the bag has since become an icon.

We would like to introduce you to Jane Birkin, as pictured yesterday, and a full 30 years after the original bag was created, carrying none other than her namesake, the Hermes Birkin bag.

Now you’re met the Jane Birkin of today and you’re a woman in the know.

Incidentally, here’s a picture of Jane Birkin back in 1969.  She was quite the character…

The Gentlemen’s Morning Coat

With the wedding season fast approaching, it’s a good time to discuss the Gentlemen’s Morning Coat, also known as tails.

Preferred by many men over a tuxedo.

Preferred by many men over a tuxedo, any man can more easily wear a morning coat to a tuxedo.

The coat originated during the days when horseback was the primary mode of transportation and allowed for the legs to straddle the horse without any encumbrances, but it has since become an elegant alternative to the tuxedo.

A morning coat is a single-breasted coat, the front parts usually meeting at one button in the middle, and curving away gradually into a pair of tails behind, topped by two ornamental buttons on the waist seam. The lapels are usually pointed, since the coat is now only worn as formalwear. The coat can be grey or black as part of morning dress, and is usually worn with striped, or very occasionally checked trousers.

The morning coat may also be worn as part of a morning suit, which is mid-grey with matching trousers and waistcoat (vest).  In the old days, (haha) a morning suit was only to be worn by nobility as opposed to the morning coat, but today even noblemen can wear the morning coat, as you see Princes William and Harry in the picture above.

When an event invitation suggests a morning coat, it is an indication for women that a dress with matching jacket (suitdress) and hat is appropriate.  Whilst we don’t understand why, the morning coat seems to be more commonly acceptable in England.

Morning coats are always worn at Royal Ascot and at the Derby.

Morning coats are always worn at Royal Ascot and at the Derby, at which time it is always worn with a contrasting waistcoat (or vest)

More flattering than the tuxedo (which just looks like a glorified suit), the morning coat is the coat of choice for society men.  It is always worn for a 10 o’clock or noon wedding, which tend to be the most formal of weddings.  And, whilst it is always appropriate for all wedding times for the groomsmen, who would wear it with a bow tie, wedding guests wear the morning coat without a bow tie and only for daytime affairs.

The White dinner jacket, though still worn for sit down dinners and galas, has become less popular and is most frequently worn when one is invited to a sit down dinner party at the home of a friend. (We know, you’re thinking “who does that, right?” yet plenty of people still have formal dinners, which you’ve seen during a few episodes of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills).

The less formal white dinner jacket is still an outstanding choice for dinner affairs.

The less formal white dinner jacket is still an outstanding choice for dinner affairs.

Both the white dinner jacket and/or the tuxedo is commonly seen being worn by gentlemen at society functions, galas and fundraising events, yet, the morning coat would never be a safe choice for these evening events.

Men always seem to be worried about being over-dressed here in the United States when wearing a tuxedo or morning coat, but we suggest the morning coat become more of an acceptable norm here.

It’s a much cleaner look when hands are in the pocket, as so many men seem to place a hand or two and men who are seen wearing well-fitted morning coats tend to look more relaxed and lend an aire of elegance…kind of like the man who wears the ascot…always elegant.

Always elegant.

Always elegant

We just located this outstanding morning coat guide on the internet, which you might like to take a peak at…

A Sommolier.

A sommolier (French, pronounced sum ul ee yay) is a highly skilled and elite professional who has a good “nose” especially trained for wine. The Sommolier is a trained professional whose job includes selecting wines for a restaurant’s list and then managing the purchase, storage, sales and service of the inventory.  His or her job is to also recommend wine pairings when one looks at an extensive wine menu and simply doesn’t know what would be a brilliant choice.
Ordinarily one is born with this good “nose” and it is recognised early on as a gift.  Someone with a good “nose” is hyper-sensitive to the smells around them and can smell things ordinary people can’t.  For example, a young child might smell a dead rat or mildew when others can’t, and this ability to smell these things can drive them crazy.  That’s when a parent recognises the good nose and can steer their children into professions that require it, much like a parent whose child is born with a voice encourages them to persue a singing career or join the choir.
You will recognise members of this elite profession by the wearing of the “tastevin”, which is traditional sommerlier gear, and which they wear around their neck. The impressions in the cup highlight color and clarity of a wine.
You will find sommoliers in finer restaurants, private clubs and at the parties of well-heeled friends, but did you know that sommoliers actually go through years of training and there are an elite few colleges in the United States that offer this training?
It's all in the "nose".

It’s all in the “nose”.

The University of California at Davis, which has an extensive vintner’s agricultural program, and where most of the famous vintners children go to learn the latest in the technologies of the business, train sommoliers the world over and do you know where many of them find work?
In Dubai, of all places, where a good bottle of wine can go for $8,000.
A sommolier knows that even the way a bottle is handled can change the dynamics of its bouquet and so typically handle the bottle delicately to give it the treatment and respect it deserves.  As a patron, if the bottle is handled poorly by wait staff it would be good reason to demand a new bottle prior to its opening.  If we’ve seen this once, we’ve seen it a hundred times.

#RHOBH Taylor Armstrong Admits Birkins Were Fake

Ever since we watched the episode of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” where Taylor Armstrong settled her lawsuit with Hermes Birkin bags and her engagement ring, rumours have been swirling that everything was fake.

We admit, we figured the ring was fake, but never really believed the Birkins were but, alas…

On twitter Taylor confirmed it when a follower asked her straight out…

“Are ur Birkin bags really fake?”

Taylor answered…

“Absolutely! 2 that were gifts from my X ended up being fake #badgifts”

Then, not surprisingly, the follower told her to come clean and admit she knew they were fakes and Taylor said they were gifts and she never questioned their authenticity.

That makes sense to me, actually.

Your friend,

The Fake Birkin, Where to Get It

Since we’ve been talking about the Birkin bag, many have asked “are there any good fakes?” and the answer is, “yes”.  Since you’re most likely not an “A”-List celebrity and under the constant scrutiny of an intrusive paparazzi, you might be able to pull having a fake off.

Taylor Armstrong was apparently able to waltz around Beverly Hills with her fake Birkin, the truth only coming out when she turned them in for the settlement of a law suit, but it looked quite the real thing, didn’t it?

So, we have done some serious scouting and, though there seem to be many sites, we found this source of fake Birkins to be most reliable.   At these prices one can certainly afford to have a fake Birkin!

Here’s the site: The Fake Birkin

We have it on good authority that several celebs shop this vendor and the vendor has very good reviews, however, we have no personal experience with them.

For those of you who have purchased from them and reached out to us with your experience, thank you.

Happy shopping!

Heidi Klum Does Birkin Well.

This pink ostrich Hermes Birkin looks good just casually banging around town or at an afternoon tea with friends.  We call it the perfect Town & Country bag.

Compare the same bag being used for two different occasions as Victoria Beckham uses hers for a more formal daytime affair…

One of the reasons why the Birkin is so popular, aside from its quality, is that it is an understated piece.  It doesn’t scream any designer label, yet those in the know, know.

And now you know. xo
